The Committee on European Integration of the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine is a platform for the consolidation of the Ukrainian dairy sector, aimed at uniting businesses and professional associations on the path toward a common EU market. The purpose of the Committee is to promote the harmonisation of Ukrainian legislation with European standards in the field of production and circulation of dairy products, as well as to encourage the development of exports of Ukrainian dairy products to foreign markets.
The presentation of the European Integration Committee of the dairy sector took place on 9 May 2024 in Kyiv during the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine (UDEU) and the European Dairy Association (EDA).
With the implementation of the “autonomous trade measures” (without tariffs and quotas) introduced by the European Union, the Ukrainian dairy sector has become an integrated part of the single EU dairy market for approved products and authorised dairy plants.
UDEU and EDA conducted a joint study entitled “Prospects for the Development of the Dairy Sector in Ukraine and the EU,” which highlights the positive consequences of the long-term integration of the Ukrainian dairy sector into the European dairy market—namely, mutual free trade that promotes the exchange of dairy products between Ukraine and the European Union in both directions, based on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) Agreement, without customs duties, quotas, or any other unjustified administrative barriers.
According to Alexander Anton, Secretary General of the European Dairy Association (EDA), 50% of Ukrainian dairy companies export dairy products to Europe, 58 enterprises export to Switzerland, and agreements have also been signed with China.
“The Memorandum of Understanding between the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine (UDEU) and the European Dairy Association (EDA) will remove obstacles for Ukraine and will allow even more products to be exported to the EU. We, for our part, on the basis of a free agreement, will support Ukraine’s integration into the European market—without quotas, without borders, and without customs duties, which is very important.” — Alexander Anton, Secretary General of the European Dairy Association (EDA).
The European Integration Committee of the UDEU was presented by Andrii Tabalov, CEO of “Voloshkove Pole” Dairy Company, and Yelyzaveta Sviatkivska, Coordinator of the UDEU European Integration Committee.
