The town of Arenaza (Buenos Aires Province, Argentina) is emerging as one of the most technologically advanced dairy production centres in Latin America. According to edairynews, a $50 million investment and the introduction of 96 milking robots are transforming the region into the epicentre of Dairy 4.0.

Investments in the dairy sector

The project is being implemented by Grupo Duhau, which has invested $50 million in cutting-edge dairy infrastructure. Key details:

  • 96 milking robots — the highest concentration on a single farm in the region;
  • managing a herd of 6,000 cows;
  • the use of real-time monitoring systems.

The ‘smart farm’ model

At the same time, modern livestock housing systems are being developed, including compost barn systems and cooled bedding, which are being introduced by the Mitikile farm.

Such solutions ensure:

  • consistent performance unaffected by thermal stress;
  • centralised waste management with subsequent use as biofertilizers;
  • improving animal welfare and reducing disease.

New dairy production centre

Arenaza, located in Lincoln County, is gradually moving beyond its traditional rural status to become a hub for innovation in the dairy industry.

The development of such a hub is driving demand for agricultural technology, software and engineering solutions, whilst also ensuring a stable supply of raw materials for Argentina’s dairy industry.

The trend towards automation

The development of a robotic dairy hub is indicative of structural changes within the industry. Major producers are focusing on automation, improving cost efficiency and implementing precision livestock farming.

In the long term, the competitiveness of the dairy sector will depend on its ability to integrate technology, mitigate market risks and ensure a high standard of animal welfare.
