According to the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, at a meeting on 21 January the Cabinet of Ministers approved the State Target Economic Program for the Development of Livestock Farming through 2033. The document is aimed at restoring the sector’s production potential, stabilizing and increasing livestock numbers, reducing import dependence, and strengthening the country’s food security.
The adoption of the program is driven by a prolonged decline in livestock production, a reduction in the numbers of key animal species, and significant losses suffered by the sector as a result of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation. A number of livestock enterprises have been destroyed or ceased operations, while access to resources, logistics, and sales markets has been disrupted.
The program provides for a комплекс of measures, including the development of breeding activities, improvement of biosecurity and veterinary and sanitary control, as well as stimulation of production, processing, and exports of animal products. Particular emphasis is placed on creating long-term and predictable conditions for investment in the sector and its gradual adaptation to European standards.
According to Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, livestock farming is an important component of food security, rural development, and agri-processing. The new state program is intended to ensure the systematic recovery of the sector after the losses caused by the war.
Financing of the measures will be carried out within the framework of state budget expenditures for the relevant years and from other sources not prohibited by law.Source:Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine
