As reported by Interfax.ru, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation expects the profitability of the dairy cattle sector to reach 22% by the end of 2025, excluding subsidies, and 35% in the raw milk segment.
The ministry notes that the dairy industry has demonstrated positive dynamics over the past five years. In 2024, milk production reached a record 34.2 million tonnes. By 2030, the target is to increase volumes to 38.5 million tonnes, which is expected to ensure a 90% level of self-sufficiency in milk and dairy products in accordance with the Food Security Doctrine.
The expansion of the raw material base allows for maintaining the capacity utilization of processing enterprises. In 2024, growth was recorded in the production of key categories:
- milk powder and cream — up 7.3%;
- drinking milk — up 3.1%;
- butter — up 2.1%;
- cheese — up 1.7%.
Per capita milk consumption increased by 0.6%. According to preliminary data, the upward consumption trend is continuing in 2026.
As of February 16, the retail price of butter decreased by 5.3% year-on-year, while the price of pasteurized milk increased by 5.4%, and cheese prices rose by 3.5%.
