The world’s largest integrated dairy complex to be built in Algeria

GEA Group, a supplier for the food industry, in partnership with Qatari dairy producer Baladna and the Algerian government, establishes the world’s largest integrated enterprise—a dairy farm and milk powder production facility in Algeria, according to FoodBev Media.

The official contract signing ceremony – represented by GEA CEO Stefan Klebert – took place in Algiers.

The project, which is scheduled for the early 2026, aims to strengthen Algeria’s self-sufficiency in dairy products, considering the country’s status as the world’s third-largest importer of milk powder.

The declared investment volume will be €140-170 million. The new plant will produce about 100,000 tons of milk powder per year, which will cover about 50% of Algeria’s national demand.

The project participants are GEA, Baladna, and the Algerian National Investment Fund, which have established Baladna Algeria to manage the project’s implementation.
This initiative is both a response to the country’s dependence on imported dairy products and focusing to strengthen local food security and create about 5,000 jobs for Algerian residents.

Stefan Klebert emphasized the importance of the project, noting that it is one of the largest projects in the company’s history. “We are not only building the world’s largest facility of this type, but also support to strengthen regional food security and economic development,” said the CEO of GEA.

“This project demonstrates the appeal of our technologies and products, backed by our extensive capabilities in large-scale technology and plant construction.”
