Ukraine and Algeria have discussed expanding cooperation in the dairy sector, specifically the supply of dairy products and the development of industrial partnerships. According to the Algerian Press Agency (APC), the talks were attended by representatives of the business community and government bodies from both countries.
Negotiations on dairy products
The meeting took place in Algiers and was attended by Tayeb Chebab, President of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives of regional chambers, and a Ukrainian delegation led by Oleksandr Voronin, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Algeria.
The Ukrainian delegation also included:
- Oleg Osian, First Deputy Head of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection
- representatives of the Ukrainian business community
The main focus was on:
- strengthening cooperation in the food industry
- development of the dairy sector
- opportunities for supplying products to the Algerian market
Exports of dairy products to Algeria
The Ukrainian delegation presented the production capabilities of the dairy sector and expressed an interest in entering the Algerian market.
Specifically, this refers to exports of:
- powdered milk
- cheeses
- other dairy products
Industrial equipment for dairy processing was also on display.
Development of a bilateral partnership
The Ukrainian Ambassador emphasised the need to revitalise the agreement signed in 2021 between the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ukrainian side, which provides for the establishment of a joint business council.
According to him, the reinstatement of this mechanism will help to:
- the development of economic relations
- the expansion of trade
- strengthening cooperation in the dairy sector
The context of the event
The meeting took place as part of the Ukrainian delegation’s participation in the ‘Gaza Agro’ agricultural and food products exhibition, which is being held in Algiers from 12 to 15 April.
