An employee of the veterinary department has been found dead in the Novosibirsk region. He headed the department responsible for the seizure of livestock. This was reported by ‘Siberian Express’ and his wife, Elena.
Details of the death. According to the *Siberian Express*, Serhii Tura was found in his own car with a gunshot wound. Suicide is being considered as one of the possible causes. Investigations into the department had begun shortly before this.
Olena claims that her husband suffered a heart attack — he had taken sick leave shortly before his death.
“It’s down to his job; it’s directly linked to it. It’s a huge mental and physical strain, and a huge responsibility. He went on sick leave, and that’s how it happened. Both the investigators and the local police officer came round yesterday,” she said.
According to the *Siberian Express*, Tura’s department was involved in seizing livestock from residents of districts in the Novosibirsk Region where, according to the authorities, an outbreak of pasteurellosis had occurred.
Confiscation of livestock. Since February, livestock has been confiscated and destroyed from farmers in the Novosibirsk region. The authorities attributed this to outbreaks of rabies and pasteurellosis, but, according to local residents, no documentation was provided at the time of the confiscation, and the reasons were not properly explained.
However, since pasteurellosis is treatable with antibiotics and does not require culling livestock, experts suspected it might be a more dangerous infection, such as foot-and-mouth disease.
