On 1 September, the world marks World Cow Day — an occasion to recognise cows’ contribution to the production of milk, cheese, butter and dozens of other products, as well as responsible farming, humane treatment of animals and the sustainable development of agriculture.
The cow is one of the earliest domesticated animals. For thousands of years it has fed people, helped on the farm and remained an important part of many countries’ economies. For the dairy industry, the cow is not merely a «means of production» but its very foundation: everything we love at breakfast, and everything that reaches store shelves each day, starts with her.
The animal the industry rests on
Behind every litre of milk is daily work — by the cow and by the people who care for her. A healthy, well-tended herd needs attention 365 days a year: no weekends, holidays or pauses. A cow cannot be «put on hold» — which is exactly why dairy farming remains one of the most demanding and responsible areas of agriculture. A modern farm is no longer only the care and experience of a livestock specialist, but also genetics, balanced feeding, veterinary support and animal comfort and welfare. The better a cow feels, the better the milk — a simple truth now backed by technology, data and animal-welfare science.

Today we thank everyone who builds Ukraine’s dairy industry: farmers and family-farm owners, livestock specialists, vets, milkers and operators who come out to the herd at dawn — often in the difficult and even dangerous conditions of wartime.
