Household farms cut output by more than a quarter (-27.0%), while enterprises grew production by 5.0%. Poltava, Cherkasy and Khmelnytskyi remain the leading regions.

According to preliminary data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine (SSSU), total milk production across all farm categories reached 4,103 thousand tonnes in January–August 2026 — down 12.7% year-on-year. The decline continues to be driven mainly by household farms, while enterprise output keeps growing.

Enterprises grow, households keep losing ground

Household farms cut output from 2,592 to 1,892 thousand tonnes over the year (-27.0%), and by nearly a third versus 2024 (2,945 thousand tonnes) — the sharpest fall of any farm category. Enterprises show the opposite pattern: output rose from 2,106 to 2,211 thousand tonnes (+5.0%), following 4.9% growth the year before — the sector’s second consecutive year of growth, even as the national total keeps falling purely on the back of household exits.

Regional ranking by milk production

In January–August 2026, milk output was concentrated mainly in central and northern regions:

  • Poltava region — 319k tonnes
  • Cherkasy region — 268k tonnes
  • Khmelnytskyi region — 211k tonnes
  • Chernihiv region — 208k tonnes
  • Vinnytsia region — 199k tonnes
  • Kyiv region — 192k tonnes
  • Ternopil region — 160k tonnes
  • Zhytomyr region — 116k tonnes
  • Kharkiv region — 108k tonnes
  • Sumy region — 90k tonnes
  • Volyn region — 83k tonnes
  • Rivne region — 55k tonnes
  • Kirovohrad region — 54k tonnes
  • Mykolaiv region — 51k tonnes
  • Dnipropetrovsk region — 37k tonnes
  • Lviv region — 26k tonnes
  • Odesa region — 14k tonnes
  • Ivano-Frankivsk region — 13k tonnes
  • Chernivtsi region — 5k tonnes
  • Zaporizhzhia region — 2k tonnes

The top three regions (Poltava, Cherkasy, Khmelnytskyi) together account for nearly a fifth of the country’s total milk output. The smallest volumes are in Zaporizhzhia (2k tonnes) and Chernivtsi (5k tonnes).

Regional picture: who is growing, who is losing

Regional data on the 2026-vs-2025 change, broken down by enterprises and households, confirms the national pattern at regional level. In most regions, household output fell sharply, while enterprise output rose noticeably in a number of regions — including Rivne, Kharkiv, Ternopil and Zhytomyr.
