The US is channelling new funding to support exports of dairy products and other agricultural goods with the aim of boosting global demand. According to RFDTV, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is allocating funds under the America First trade promotion programme.
Support for dairy exports
The funding is being channelled through the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) and will be distributed among 55 organisations involved in developing export markets and establishing trade links.
In the context of the dairy sector, the key recipient of funding has been the U.S. Dairy Export Council, which will receive $5.5 million to promote American dairy products in overseas markets.
Growing global demand for milk
The programme is designed to support exports of key agricultural commodities, including milk and dairy products, as well as soybeans, corn, cotton, beef, pork, poultry. The main focus is on:
- strengthening our position in existing markets
- expanding into new markets
- the development of trade relations
Funding should form part of a broader policy to expand exports against a backdrop of growing competition in the global market.
Impact on the dairy sector
For dairy farmers, such support means a boost in external demand, which is crucial given the current shifts in global trade and market conditions.
It is expected that the investment will contribute to:
- the growth in dairy exports
- expanding access to international markets
- to boost the competitiveness of American manufacturers
