On 20 September 2001, an association was born that became the single voice of Ukraine’s dairy sector. Today the UDEU marks its 25th anniversary.

The Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine (UDEU; Ukrainian: СМПУ) is celebrating a quarter-century. Registered on 20 September 2001, the association has grown over 25 years from the initiative of a few enterprises into a key industry body representing the interests of Ukraine’s dairy sector. The UAdairy.org editorial team joins in the congratulations.

Born in a crisis

The UDEU was founded in September 2001 with a concrete goal — to overcome the crisis and negative phenomena then affecting the milk and dairy market. Its 19 founding entities included dairy processors with domestic and foreign capital, plus makers of equipment, packaging and ingredients for the sector.

A single voice for the sector

Over 25 years, the Union has grown from 19 founders to dozens of members, becoming a platform that turns a diverse membership into one voice for the dairy sector. 

Its tasks include developing Ukraine’s dairy industry, protecting members’ interests before state bodies, helping design and implement development programs, improving the regulatory framework and fostering fair market competition. 

The Union is chaired by Vadym Chaharovskyi.

The executive director is Arsen Didur.

Ukraine’s voice in Europe

Today the UDEU increasingly represents the Ukrainian sector internationally. A Union delegation recently took part in the International Dairy Community Forum in Białystok, telling European peers that Ukraine’s sector is ready to compete — but not to accept double standards — on its path to EU membership.
