The Ukrainian government has allocated UAH 100 million to support applied research and development (R&D) for defence, energy, transport, medicine, the agricultural sector, IT and other fields, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi announced, Ekonomichna Pravda reports.
«For the first time, the government is launching mechanisms to support joint applied research and development commissioned by technology business in the interests of defence and the economy», he wrote on Telegram.
This year, UAH 100 million is being directed to it, with priority for security and defence, energy, transport, medicine, the agricultural sector, IT and robotics.
«The principle is simple: teams from state universities and research institutions will develop solutions for companies’ specific technological and production needs. The state will cover from 50% to 65% of a project’s cost depending on the size of the business, and the client company the rest», the head of government explained.
«This way, the state will help move from idea and testing to a finished solution. Our task is to create more opportunities so that Ukrainian research and development works for defence and the economy, and business obtains the technological solutions it needs within Ukraine», Koretskyi said.
Background
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers approved its first list of state commissions to scientists: they will create 22 research developments, with two years and a dedicated budget of over UAH 186 million for implementation.
