Angus cattle from Australia
A large consignment of Angus breeding cattle arrived from Australia on a special flight on 16 October. The cargo plane carrying 305 cattle landed at Astana airport, and the animals were then taken to two farms in North Kazakhstan Region — Shal Akyn AGRO-2020 and Asyl Farms.
«For our farm, developing beef production is above all a chance to diversify and make better use of our own feed base. We chose the Aberdeen Angus breed for its strong fattening performance and high meat quality. Bringing in Australian genetics will allow us to build our own high-yielding herd and further develop breeding directly in North Kazakhstan Region», said Gabiden Balginbekov, director of Asyl Farms LLP.
North Kazakhstan: a breeding livestock hub
The ministry said North Kazakhstan Region is becoming one of the centres of breeding livestock development, with a pool of 23 projects to purchase breeding animals worth a total of 15 billion tenge.
Since the start of the year, more than 3,000 breeding females have been brought to the region from Germany and Denmark, and 10 more flights with breeding animals from Australia are expected by the end of the year. Total imports to the region are forecast to reach around 11,000 cattle and over 1,500 sheep and goats.
Infrastructure development
Infrastructure in the region is also expanding. North Kazakhstan currently has 118 dairy farms, 50 of them modern, and 57 veterinary stations are under construction with total funding of 1.5 billion tenge.
